Leister. out of 5 stars Falsely Advertised.4/5(10). The book is about Tom's development as he passes through the formative teen years. There is a lot of moralistic philosophising, and Thomas Hughes certainly wrote the book as a `road map' for young boys.
This latter point was completely lost on me the first time round, teacher-led reading - perhaps I had poor teachers/5().
